According to new research, the IT sector in Scotland has benefitted from the best salary increases in the past 12 months – a sure case of more quids pro quo.

Data Architects

The statistics show these IT pros saw an average salary increase of 16.7% in the past year.

As the clever clogs responsible for developing and implementing databases, they ensure the secure storage and retrieval of a company’s information.

The role is highly skilled and candidates should be familiar with the techie tools of the trade, such as SQL, Oracle and Excel.

Typically from a computer science background, Data Architects are analytically minded and have a great knack for problem solving.

 

SAP Architects

Don’t be fooled by the name, this has nothing to do with trees. But SAP Architects are a special branch of IT in Scotland, having enjoyed an average 15.4% wage rise in the past 12 months.

Within the SAP scope, they may specialise in Solution Architecture, Enterprise Architecture or Technical Architecture.

They’re responsible for analysing the business and technical requirements of an organisation then forming a solid architectural blueprint based to solve problems and achieve business objectives.

As the IT backbone of a company, the role of a SAP Architect is complex and challenging, requiring in-depth knowledge of both IT and business processes.

 

Database Developers

Taking on similar responsibilities as Data Architects, Developers are entrusted with creating, testing, maintaining and improving new and existing company databases, in order to ensure optimum efficiency and consistency.

They’re also often responsible for designing technical training manuals and providing IT support and solutions to database users.

It’s little wonder this role has seen a 12.5% wage increase in the past year.

 

Information Security Engineer

With a salary increase of 10%, Information Security Engineers play an integral role in the business of any company that has a sizeable IT operation.

Their main role is to safeguard computers, networks and systems against cyber attacks. Entrusted with developing and implementing a robust security strategy, they’re also adept at sniffing out where vulnerabilities lie.

Think of them as IT bouncers – chucking out the riff-raff who want to upset the party atmosphere.
