Among the incredible range of goods bought by Amazon’s European customers in the last quarter of 2016 were no fewer than 60 million fashion items.
With more than 350 new brands also added there’s no doubt the company attracts its dedicated followers of fashion.
So it’s no surprise to learn Amazon Fashion Europe has appointed Ethiopian model, actress and designer Liya Kebede as its ‘Face of Spring/Summer 17’.
Meantime Amazon UK has launched The Kindle Storyteller Award, a new literary prize recognising newly published work in the English language across any genre.
Thankfully, you don’t have to be a supermodel or award-winning writer to be the star in your very own Amazon story.
Amazon Europe is looking for candidates who have the stellar qualities to work at its 12 fulfilment centres in the UK.
These permanent roles range from Operations and HR Managers to Engineers.
The recruitment drive reflects the fast pace of the company’s growth.
With a work ethos that’s continually pushing forward both the business and its valued employees, Amazon needs smart people who are enthusiastic and really want to get stuff done.
This means that, rather than seeking people with specific skillsets, the company welcomes applicants from a wide variety of backgrounds and with different levels of academic achievement and career experience.
At the Amazon Way Fulfilment Centre in Dunfermline, which is Amazon’s largest and the size of 10 football pitches, there are already more than 1,500 permanent employees.
At Amazon Gourock in Inverclyde, meanwhile, there are more than 300 permanent employees.
Staff at both locations have taken part in the Career Choice programme that pays 95 per cent of tuition fees.
As well as pay increases over the first two years of employment, all permanent fulfilment centre employees are also given stock grants, which over the past five years were on average equal to £1,000 or more per year per person.
They also receive a comprehensive benefits package, including private medical insurance, a company pension plan, life assurance, income protection, subsidised meals and an employee discount.
There are also lots of opportunities to take part in activities, from family fun days to competitions.
Of course, job satisfaction is a must and a large part of this feel-good factor comes from knowing Amazon customers are happy.
In fact, a recent nationwide poll of 10,000 consumers ranked Amazon number one in customer satisfaction among all UK companies.
The UK Customer Satisfaction Index, run by The Institute of Customer Service, asks consumers to rate their actual experiences of the organisations they’ve dealt with on a range of metrics, from professionalism, quality and efficiency to problem solving and complaint handling.
It’s the second year running Amazon has come number one.
